Ildefonso Santos
Ildefonso Paez
Santos, Jr. made a name for himself in the Philippines by pioneering the
practice of landscape architecture, and allied field of architecture, and then
produced four decades of exemplary and engaging work that included hundreds of
parks, plazas, gardens, and other outdoor settings that have improved
contemporary Filipino life.
Santos, Jr., a
Malabon native, made his mark with the Makati Commercial Center, where he
pioneered a new idea of outdoor commerce complete with manicured walkways,
fountains, and sculptures. The essential public landscape in Paco Park was
Santos, Jr.'s contribution to modern Filipino landscape architecture.
His most recent
artworks/projects of him were the Tagaytay Highland Resort, the Mt. Malarayat
Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas, and The Orchard Golf and Country Club
in Imus, Cavite.
Since his project
is more on architecture, in line with it, the elements of principles of
contemporary arts are not visible in his arts. However, elements of art are
indeed noticeable in his artworks namely the visual components of color, form,
line, shape, space, texture, and value.
