Marc Nicdao

Mark Nicdao had no interest in photography at first, which is ironic. He had no intention of pursuing a career in this industry. But fate has a sneaky way of interfering with one's plans. Nicdao was offered an internship as a production assistant with photographer Francis Abraham, who would eventually become his mentor, by a personal friend in 2003.

He'd been apprenticed to Abraham for eight months when fate intervened once more. Nicdao had been hired to photograph Lucy Torres, a former celebrity who is now the representative of Leyte's fourth district. Nicdao, who was 24 at the time, took a risk despite admitting that he was "not technically excellent yet" and that he was "always uncertain." Not only did his decision pay off, but the trip was "wonderful”. Torres then asked Nicdao for his phone number, stating she could call him again if she needed him. She followed through on her promise and called him for a future campaign, and the rest is history.

Nicdao's tale exemplifies how, if you can't discover your interests, they will find you. His enthusiasm for photography became stronger as his curiosity with the art's inventiveness, technique, and purpose grew. Nicdao can now confidently and enthusiastically explain every technological decision, go through his vision, and express his mission. It takes a lot of guts to last over two decades in a tough field. Within the first five years, many photographers burn out, lose favor, or are simply forgotten. Nicdao, on the other hand, not only stayed in the game but also managed to go ahead of the group.

The personal interaction between photographer and subject necessitates humility in order to create trust. Nicdao spends a lot of time scrutinizing persons in front of his camera, which may be intrusive as he examines them for both their beauty and defects. And soon, a special friendship is developed. Because he really wants a fantastic shot, he has maintained solid working relationships and a devoted clientele. Nicdao is a perfectionist who will not compromise on quality, but he will not push his vision.

Nicdao is so engrossed in his job that he no longer has the ability to outsource his editing. The back-and-forth was even more demanding for him. He becomes passionate when discussing his editing, claiming that film photographers see their darkroom work as a sacred rite. It provided me with new creative opportunities.

The photographer has evolved into a multidisciplinary artist who enjoys using his hands. Nicdao enjoys giving his products a physical feel. He draws on his images with his fingers, then digitally manipulates and adds graphics. Marc Nicdao employs perspective techniques to provide a realistic sense of depth, and often experiment with perspective to offer dramatic or perplexing images. The artist works with the physical area that surrounds the artwork. The way the observer looks at the artwork, and even how the piece is interpreted, can be influenced by perspective.
